Le Domaine du Colombier is a two-storey building set in its own grounds. Let's take a tour.

The courtyard and the ground floor.

You enter Le Domaine through wide metal gates which lead you into the paved courtyard with its flower-beds on either side. To your left is your huge secure garage which can take two or three cars.

Through your front door into the hallway with telephone & wifi. You have the living-room on your right with comfortable seating, satellite TV, DVD/CD player, some DVDs mainly for children and plenty of books in English. Back to the hallway at the far end of which you have a wash-room with wc and washbasin, and coat-rack.

To the left of the hallway is the spacious kitchen which includes a 4-plate hob, separate oven, one of the two fridge freezers, dish-washer, microwave, toaster, kettle and all necessary equipment. It offers plenty of storage and worktop space. The dining-table seats 10 people with ease, looking over the courtyard.

An archway leads into the sun-room, a long south-facing room which runs the length of the house. It has comfortable chairs and settee, a desk and telephone. At the end of the sunroom is the scullery, which includes the washing-machine, the second fridge/freezer, a sink and central heating boiler.

Porte-fenetres lead from the sun-room to the dining terrace and garden - see below.

The first floor.

From the hallway, you climb the stairs to the upper floor. At the top of the stairs, there is a gate for children's safety which you use at your own risk. To the left of the landing there is a short corridor which takes you to three twin bedrooms. All bedrooms have ample storage and drawer space - no bunks or sofa-beds. Two of these rooms look over the courtyard. The third twin-room has a lovely view over the garden, the village and the Corbieres hills beyond.

Back to the landing, and to your left you have a shower-room with wc and wash-basin. Then the linen cupboard. And to your right is the large double bedroom with its three windows and walk-in wardrobe.

Beyond the double bedroom, you have the main bathroom on your right. It has a bath, separate shower, wc, wash-basins (there are 2 baths, 3 showers, 3 wcs altogether).

At the far end of the landing, you enter the 'king' bedroom with king-size double bed and en suite bath, separate shower and wash-basin.

The house has oil-fired central heating, very effective with radiators in every room.

The dining terrace and garden.

You step onto the dining terrace from porte-fenetres leading out from the sun-room. The terrace has a large dining-table with ample seating for ten people. It look over the garden below towards the village and hills beyond.  Below the terrace is the large barbecue.

Steps lead down into the garden which is grassed with trees and shrubs. There is a swing at one end and plenty of space for children's play. The garden is walled, private and not overlooked.  A boltable gate leads from the garden into the copse.

The copse, gazebo and swimming-pool.

Through the wooden gate from the garden, you walk up into the copse which is a flat area with conifers and bamboo. To the left of the copse is a little gazebo with seating. Children seem to use this as a pretend shop! The gazebo marks the limit of the property from which you get a lovely view over the village below towards the Pyrenean range in the distance.

On the other side of the copse is the large swimming-pool, a rectangle 11x5ms. As a paddling area we had the 'Roman' steps enlarged to create an additional flat shallow space 3x3ms, easily supervised from the patio. This has proved very popular. You can see the area on the photographs. Vertical steps lead into the deep end.

The broad patio surrounds the pool, with a hammock, loungers, tables and chairs. The surrounds are verdant with trees, bushes and shrubs of all kinds. The pool is fenced for security. Apart from the entrance into the patio, the boltable gate from the garden provides an additional barrier to stop children wandering into the pool area on their own.
